Daisydowns Miniature Donkey Farm lies in a tropical valley in the Hinterland on the Gold Coast Queensland, Australia. We are a small farm of 25 acres dedicated to breeding only pure Mediterranean Miniature Donkeys. In 2000 we imported three new bloodlines from "Copperas Creek " Illinois USA and are extremely thrilled with our jennets and their beautiful little foals .
Our first love is our donkeys, and with only a small herd we are able to spend time loving, rearing and breeding this remarkable little creature. Daisydowns is purposed built for miniature donkeys offering quarantine area, a 3 stall maternity stable block, breeding and aggistment paddocks with all 10 grazing paddocks having access to shelter sheds and dams.
Our breeding programme is long term and our first Mediterranean Miniature Donkey to arrive was a foal, Taranaganba Harley . Now our herd sire, he has proudly presented us with many wonderful foals. In 2005 we were thrilled to send Daisydowns Rosebud the first of our bloodlines to Jude Mitchell in New Zealand .
We believe a loving temperament is essential and that is what we look for in a blood line first, then conformation , size and colour. We are very thankful for the support and encouragement from our friends from USA. and Canada.
In 2008 and 2009 many new USA/Canandian bloodlines of Mediterranean Miniature Donkeys were imported to Australia by dedicated breeders and some new owners. This has extended Australia's gene pool very rapidly and we thank all owners for such a huge finacial undertaking and we wish them well with their breeding programme and look forward to seeing lots of exciting coloured and spotted foals in the future. Even with this increase, Mediterranean Miniature Donkeys with both dam and sire 100% pure registered breed are still quite rare on mainland Australia and Tasmania.
We will continue to promote this adorable and unique breed of donkey, encouraging registration to maintain the integrity of the breed and also the breeders .
